Importer Security Filing
The US Department of Homeland Security has issued a rule that will require by law electronic filing of certain prescribed data elements to US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) for all shipments by sea in advance of being exported to the US.
Specifically, the regulation will require importers to submit 10 pieces of information. It will require importers like Eaton to file an “Importer Security Filing” 24 hours prior to loading containing the following 10 data elements:
- Manufacturer (or supplier) name and address
- Seller (or owner) name and address
- Buyer (or owner) name and address
- Ship-to name and address
- Container stuffing location
- Consolidator (stuffer) name and address
- Importer of record number/foreign trade zone applicant identification number
- Consignee number(s)
- Country of origin, and
- Commodity Harmonized Tariff Schedule number
