Pitney Bowes chairman elected to Eaton board

CLEVELAND, OH....Michael J. Critelli, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Pitney Bowes Inc. (NYSE:PBI), has been elected to the Board of Directors of Eaton Corporation (NYSE:ETN), effective October 1, 1998. Critelli's election increases the number of members of Eaton's board to 12.
Critelli joined Pitney Bowes, which is based in Stamford, Connecticut, as Legal Department Counsel in 1979. He held a number of increasingly responsible positions in that department prior to being appointed Vice President, Secretary and General Counsel in 1988. In 1990 he was given the additional responsibility of Chief Personnel Officer, and in 1993 was appointed President of Pitney Bowes Financial Services. He was elected Chief Executive Officer of the corporation in May, 1996, and Chairman and CEO effective January 1, 1997.
Critelli is a member of the Board of Directors of Catalyst, Inc. and is a member of the Board of Trustees of the National Urban League. Additionally, he has served in an advisory capacity to the Connecticut Department of Transportation on private sector transportation issues. His community involvement activities include serving as corporate partners campaign chairman for ConneCT 2000, a program to insure Internet access for all Connecticut public schools and libraries, and as chairman of the 1994 Pitney Bowes United Way campaign.
Critelli graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1970 with a B. A. in communications and political science, and received his J. D., cum laude, from Harvard Law School in 1974. Prior to joining Pitney Bowes, Critelli was associated with the Chicago law firms of Ross & Hardies and Schwartz & Freeman.
