CLEVELAND, OH...Eaton Corporation's Board of Directors today elected Stephen R. Hardis the company's ninth Chairman of the Board, effective January 1, 1996. Hardis, 60, succeeds William E. Butler, who had previously indicated his intent to retire at the end of 1995. Butler is 64.
At the company's annual meeting on April 26th, Hardis was named Chief Executive Officer, effective September 1, 1995, and the board indicated at that time that he would succeed Butler as board chairman.
Hardis began his career with Eaton in 1979 as Executive Vice President-Finance and Administration. He was elected to the board of directors in 1983, and in 1986 became Vice Chairman and Chief Financial and Administrative Officer.
