EATON’S CUTLER-HAMMER® BRAND METAL ENCLOSED FRONT ACCESSIBLE SWITCHGEAR SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCES OVERALL PROJECT COSTS
PITTSBURGH … Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation today announced a breakthrough in medium voltage switchgear technology that has yielded the most flexible and cost-effective products introduced to the market in decades.
The new Cutler-Hammer® brand metal enclosed front (MEF) accessible switchgear can significantly reduce a project’s overall cost due to its reduced clearance installation requirements, portability and intelligent integrated trip units.
The MEFTM switchgear employs a highly integrated breaker and structure design to achieve an overall space savings of more than 50 percent. A typical main-tie-main arrangement requires 119.46 square feet, whereas the identical metal clad medium-voltage switchgear arrangement requires 266.53. The complete package can be transported using a fork truck or pallet jack, and conveniently fits into a freight elevator, eliminating the need for cranes and additional construction in retrofit applications.
Furthermore, the MEF switchgear’s unique main structure allows complete front accessibility, permitting structures to be installed directly against a wall. This combination of space optimizing features simplifies retrofit installations and can significantly reduce a project’s overall cost by allowing for convenient placement in space-constrained gear rooms.
Eaton’s available integral self-powering trip unit eliminates the need for an external power source further reducing up-front maintenance and overall cost-of-ownership. A suite of standard predictive diagnostics further complements Eaton’s MEF Switchgear maximizing mean repair time.
“This product introduction further solidifies Eaton’s legacy of leadership in switchgear design,” said David Pisano, Product Manager, Medium Voltage Distribution. “The MEF switchgear retains the rugged durability that defines Cutler Hammer switchgear designs, while drastically reducing the footprint versus traditional switchgear. The space saving characteristics and intelligent features make this product a cost-effective choice for both commercial and industrial customers.”
UL listed and rated for 5 and 15kV; 600,1200 and 2,000A; and 25 or 40kA, the MEF switchgear also boasts a number of innovative product features, including maintenance-free hardware that prevents loosening, a unique pull section for cabling that is only 19” wide, and standard drawing packages.
Eaton’s MEF switchgear is now available through the worldwide Eaton distribution channel or by contacting your local Eaton sales office. For more information, call 1-800-525-2000 or visit www.eatonelectrical.com.
