Construction Industry Now Has Vocation-Specific Telematics Choice With Eaton’s Fleet Resource Manager
LAS VEGAS … Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation has expanded its Fleet Resource Manager – a popular web-based fleet management tool for the trucking industry.
The new construction package has been tailored to meet the specific mobile resource management requirements of businesses engaged in a variety of vocational applications. These include mixer, dump, municipal service and related operations.
“The new construction package combines our well-established list of standard Fleet Resource Manager services and solutions with a new suite of special features to help vocational fleets better manage their vehicles, as well as the materials being transported,” said Roderick Jones, VSBU manager. “Resulting in productivity improvements and significant reductions in operational costs.”
The construction package uses an in-vehicle device that records the movement of vehicles by relaying global positioning system (GPS)-based location information via wireless networks of servers. The package also takes advantage of an in-vehicle, text-messaging device that enables two-way communication between drivers and the home base. Additional features that are now bundled with the new construction package include field service reports and route compliance reports, which measure planned versus actual route and work times.
“The result is better management of the tight daily time windows that are often encountered in the construction industry,” said Jones. “Fleet Resource Manager also gives these companies the ability to easily retrieve frequent updates on mobile workforce locations and activities, better document scheduled versus actual arrival and departure times, and helps minimize unauthorized use of vehicles and equipment.”
Jones outlined a list of additional features of the new construction package, including:
Presenting dispatchers with the ability to easily determine the locations of all vehicles, accurately estimate arrival times, as well as immediately determine actual arrival times.
For concrete mixer fleets schedulers will have the ability to easy and accurately access pour times, wash times, and return-to-base times.
Fleet and maintenance managers further benefit from the diagnostic capabilities of Fleet Resource Manager by gaining the ability to easily access fault codes and gather important engine, transmission, ABS and cab information.
Jones added that Fleet Resource Manager provides a high-degree of reliability and availability through dual data centers in different locations. It supports hundreds of thousands of users and millions of transactions with a high level of security and integrity. Because Fleet Resource Manager is an on-demand system, maps, reports and other displays can be used from any location with internet access. On-line technical support is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week and phone support also available nationwide.
Available Fleet Resource Manager options include:
• APIs that enable integration with existing applications.
• Direct data that allows for the streaming of data to corporate data bases and applications.
• Extended data storage for up to one year.
• Satellite modem capabilities to retrieve data when vehicles are out of wireless coverage range.
• Vehicle diagnostics to monitor engine and other vehicle information to minimize downtime and repairs.
