Eaton Donates $15,000 To SAE International’s “A World in Motion

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. … Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation announced today that it donated $15,000 to the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Foundation’s “A World in Motion” (AWIM) program. The program aims to increase students’ interest in math and science through interactive learning experiences.

“We are honored to volunteer and help fund this outstanding program that promotes math and science to students and challenges them by applying the laws of physics, motion, flight and electronics to their classroom experiences,” said Steve Woodard, manager, advanced product development. “We hope that through our donation, and the efforts of SAE and program volunteers, AWIM can continue increasing enthusiasm for these subjects.”

SAE International and the SAE Foundation introduced AWIM in 1990 to increase awareness of math and science among students. The program created to respond to low test scores and the declining number of engineering graduates.

AWIM provides interactive learning experiences to students in grades four through 10 with its “Challenges” (a series of four curricula). Each AWIM Challenge is designed around a math, science and/or technology application.

In addition to the donation, Eaton employees will volunteer dozens of hours of support to this year’s program, offering students their expertise and assistance with designs.

“SAE appreciates the corporate resources and volunteer efforts that Eaton has contributed to the program over the years,” said Carson Walburn, Director, SAE Foundation. “Eaton’s continued support demonstrates its commitment to supporting math and science education during a critical learning period in students’ lives.”

As part of SAE International, the SAE Foundation supports and nurtures students’ enthusiasm for science and technology through educational outreach programs, awards and scholarships. Programs such as “A World In Motion” and the Collegiate Design Series offer hands-on learning through fun and challenging curricula to elementary school and college students.
