Eaton TVS™ Supercharger Debuts On Corvette ZR1, Cadillac CTS-V

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. … Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation today announced that the all-new Eaton Twin Vortices Series™ (TVS™) supercharger has been selected to boost the performance of the 2009 Corvette ZR1 and the 2009 Cadillac CTS-V. This is the first North American application for Eaton’s sixth generation of supercharger.

“It’s exciting to have this game-changing technology make its debut on these iconic American performance vehicles,” said Darryl Niven, vice president and general manager of Eaton’s supercharger business.” We’re confident that the improved air flow, high thermal efficiency and reduced noise from the TVS will help these vehicles to achieve the driving characteristics coveted by targeted customers.”

The Eaton TVS supercharger is a Roots-type positive displacement device that features twin four-lobe rotors that are twisted 160-degrees. The intermeshing, high speed rotor design pumps air directly into the engines intake system that when mixed with fuel creates more power. By comparison, the original Eaton supercharger features three lobes twisted 60 degrees. The fourth lobe and added twist, when combined with redesigned air inlet and outlet ports, creates a smoother, more efficient flow of air into the engine and has improved noise and vibration characteristics. Also, unlike turbo-charging, the Eaton TVS supercharger provides instant throttle response and can generate increased power through an engine’s entire powerband.

The Eaton TVS R2300 was selected for the Corvette and the R1900 for the Cadillac and each will integrate the design with an intercooler. The Eaton numbering system references the amount of air the supercharger displaces into the engine’s intake system per revolution and is relational to the length and size of the unit’s rotors.

Eaton unveiled the TVS supercharger technology at the 2006 SEMA show and returned to SEMA in 2007 and it was announced that ROUSH Performance would utilize the Eaton TVS supercharger an integral part of its Mustang performance upgrade packages. The Australian division of Toyota also announced earlier this year that the TRD Aurion would be powered an Eaton TVS supercharger. More information is available at www.eaton.com/automotive.
