Eaton Donates $62,250 To Support Therapeutic Riding Services

KINGS MOUNTAIN, N.C. Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation’s donation of $62,250 to Cleveland County Hearts and Hooves in Shelby, N.C., will help support therapeutic horseback riding services for children and young adults with disabilities.

The funds will be used by Cleveland County Hearts and Hooves to build an ecological nature park on the campus of North Shelby School, a special purpose public school for students ages three to 21 with cognitive disabilities. The park will accommodate both therapeutic horseback trail riding and walking on handicapped accessible trails.

“The therapeutic riding program helps people with disabilities improve their communication, social, academic, behavior and motor skills,” said Heather Kauffman, president of the Hearts and Hooves Board of Directors. “Eaton’s donation will ultimately lead to greater educational achievement and a better quality of life for some very special kids.”

“Eaton employees are empowered to improve the quality of life in the communities where we work,” said Mike Iezzi, plant manager, Eaton’s Kings Mountain facility. “This strong tradition of giving back to the community is part of the Eaton culture and we’re proud to support Cleveland County Hearts and Hooves in their important work.” Dr. Nellie Aspel, principal, North Shelby School, added, “Eaton’s sense of community and charitable giving serves as a model for the businesses in Cleveland County and inspires everyone to find ways to make life better for those that need help.”

Since 2006, the Kings Mountain facility has made direct grants of over $174,000 to various community organizations in Cleveland County and the surrounding areas. This is in addition to the company’s annual United Way campaign.

Eaton’s facility in Kings Mountain, part of the company’s Truck Group, employs approximately 460 people who manufacture and assemble transmissions for the heavy duty truck market.
