TOCCOA, Ga. … Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation announced today that William Ware has been chosen as a recipient of the company’s 2008 Stover Volunteerism Award for community service. The annual award recognizes Eaton employees who have demonstrated leadership or exemplary service in community activities and have volunteered for at least one year in health, human care, educational, arts, cultural or civic organizations. The award is named in honor of James R. Stover, former Eaton chairman.
Ware works as an associate engineer for the aerospace facility in Toccoa, Ga., and has been an Eaton employee for almost 24 years. With his wife and children, he founded God Loves Our Rising Youth (GLORY), an organization focused on keeping young boys and girls active during the summer. GLORY has served more than 400 children, providing mentoring, summer activities, jobs and youth trips.
Ware is also an active member of Leadership Franklin, a group of leaders in Franklin County who come together to serve the community. Through funding, Ware and others have been able to start a local General Educational Development (GED) program in Lavonia, Ga. He also volunteers at the local soup kitchen of Toccoa/Lavonia in Northeast Ga., the local Boys and Girls Club and officiates local youth sporting events.
Each year, Eaton employees are nominated for the award and then evaluated by a diverse selection committee. Honored employees receive a commemorative award and a $2,500 contribution to a non-profit community organization of their choice.
“The Stover Volunteerism Award recognizes employees who help fulfill Eaton’s commitment to improving the communities in which we live and work,” said William B. Doggett, Eaton’s senior vice president – Public and Community Relations. “This year’s recipients make invaluable contributions to their communities. We are extremely proud of their outstanding achievements in community service.”
Part of Eaton’s Aerospace business is located in Toccoa, Ga. Approximately 145 employees work in Toccoa.
