CLEVELAND … Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation (NYSE:ETN) today announced that it ranks second on Corporate Responsibility Officer (CRO) Magazine’s 100 Best Corporate Citizens list for 2008.
Other companies recognized in the top 10 on the 100 Best Corporate Citizens list were Intel Corporation (No. 1), Nike Inc. (No. 3), Deere & Co. (No. 4), Genentech Inc. (No. 5), Corning Inc. (No. 6), Humana Inc. (No. 7), Bank of America Corp. (No. 8), ITT Corp. (No. 9) and PG&E Corp. (No. 10).
“We’re honored that CRO Magazine has recognized Eaton’s global sustainability and corporate responsibility leadership,” said Alexander M. Cutler, Eaton chairman and chief executive officer. “We will continue to work hard to earn the trust of our many stakeholders by being steadfast in our commitment to doing business right.”
Cutler noted that Eaton profiled its sustainability efforts for the first time in its 2006 annual report and will again report on its commitment to the environment, health and safety, its communities and a world-class workplace in its 2007 annual report.
CRO and IW Financial, a Portland, Maine-based research firm, reviewed the most influential U.S. public companies, drawn predominantly from the Russell 1000 Index, and evaluated them in eight categories: environment, climate change, human rights, employee relations, corporate governance, lobbying, philanthropy and financial. The category rankings were weighted and averaged to determine CRO's 100 Best Corporate Citizens.
In December 2007, Eaton ranked first in its industry sector on CRO’s 10 Best Corporate Citizens List. Eaton received top honors among 54 companies in the industrial, aerospace and transportation-related fields.
