SOUTHFIELD, Mich. … Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation today announced that its Twin Vortices Series (TVS®) supercharger won its professional drag racing debut at the 2009 Kragen O’Reilly National Hot Rod Association’s (NHRA) Winternationals in Pomona, Calif., on Feb. 11.

John Calvert, driving a 40th Anniversary 2008 Mustang FR500CJ Cobra Jet for owner Brent Hajek Motorsports duplicated the success of the original 1968 Cobra Jet by winning the Stock Eliminator class with a 10.08 pass. The 2008 Cobra Jet Mustang is a factory-built race car powered by an Eaton 2300 TVS supercharger that is NHRA-legal and is the first purpose-built race car from Ford for drag racing since the original Cobra Jet Mustang.

The Eaton TVS supercharger is an all-new Roots-type positive displacement supercharger that features twin four-lobe rotors that are twisted 160-degrees. The intermeshing, high-speed rotor design pumps air directly into the engines intake system that, when mixed with fuel, creates more power. By comparison, the original Eaton supercharger design features three lobes twisted 60 degrees. The fourth lobe and added twist, when combined with redesigned air inlet and outlet ports, creates a smooth, highly efficient flow of air into the engine and improves noise and vibration characteristics.
