Eaton Donates $10,000 To Aid Homeless Women and Children

Date: July 2, 2009

LOS ANGELES …Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation today announced a “Powering Communities Grant” of $10,000 to benefit Union Rescue Mission.  Funds will be used to support the Mission’s Hope Gardens Family Center, a transitional living facility where homeless women and children can seek safe shelter.

Building on Eaton’s tradition of corporate citizenship, the company’s “Powering Communities Grants” help improve the quality of life in communities where Eaton employees live and work.

“Eaton employees share a strong connection with the Union Rescue Mission,” said Lynette Dhillon, human resources manager, Eaton’s Los Angeles facility.  “Whether it’s raising money through bake sales, serving meals to the homeless or organizing a clothing drive, Eaton is proud to support this great organization in any way we can.”

Established in 1891, Union Rescue Mission is a non-profit organization that provides a way up and out of homelessness for men, women, children, and families through education, job training, counseling, legal assistance, transitional housing, medical care, dental care, healthy meals, safe shelter, and clean clothing. The Union Rescue Mission provides 3,500 meals per day to those living on the streets of Los Angeles and is home to 62 families.

Located in the foothills of Sylmar, California, the Hope Gardens Family Center is a 77-acre facility that serves one of the most vulnerable homeless populations: senior women and women with children.   The center is dedicated to reducing the growing homeless population by helping its residents rebuild their lives and equipping them with the tools for building a brighter future.

“What we dreamed of and hoped for our moms, children and senior ladies has happened. Today they are living a life of hope, surrounded by lush gardens, a multitude of services, and caring staff,” said the Rev. Andy Bales, Union Rescue Mission’s CEO. “Thanks to the generosity of companies like Eaton, we can continue to serve the homeless, offering them hope and healing for a changed life.”

Eaton’s facility in Los Angeles, part of the company’s Aerospace Group, manufactures hydraulic systems components for military and commercial aerospace and employs approximately 355 people.
