… Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation today announced two “Powering Communities Grants” to support local community organizations in the Shenandoah, Iowa, area, including $20,000 to Nishna Productions, Inc. and
$12,000 to Southwest Iowa Virtual Academy.
Building on Eaton’s tradition of corporate citizenship, the company’s “Powering Communities Grants” help improve the quality of life in communities where Eaton employees live and work.
"Eaton is committed to giving something back to the communities in which we work," said Kathy Leijon, human resources manager, Eaton's Shenandoah facility. "We are proud to support these organizations because they offer valuable services and benefits to the citizens of Shenandoah and the surrounding areas."
Nishna Productions, Inc. was founded in 1974 by a group of concerned citizens from Southwest Iowa. The first services were offered to seven individuals with disabilities. After more than 35 years, NPI serves approximately 200 individuals with disabilities and employs 150 staff members. Some of the services they provide include: work activity, adult day activity program, personal and social adjustment, residential services, home and community based services, and employment resources. Eaton's donation of $20,000 will help underwrite costs to build a new vocational training center in Red Oak located at 210 South Broadway.
Southwest Iowa Virtual Academy is a new program of the Farragut Community Schools for children in grades seven through 12 who are at-risk for not succeeding in a traditional classroom setting. Eaton's donation of $12,000 will be used to purchase 12 new computers with a special online software program designed to help students to learn at their own pace.
The Eaton facility in Shenandoah, Iowa, part of the company's Vehicle Group, employs approximately 360 people who manufacture truck transmissions for the NAFTA Class 8 Truck market.
