Mexico’s President Enrique Peña Nieto presented the award at a ceremony February 16 in Mexico City.

TIJUANA, Mexico … Power management company Eaton announced that its Tijuana, Mexico, facility has won the 2015 National Quality Award for exemplary quality and organizational capability, innovation, competitiveness and sustainability.

President Enrique Peña Nieto presented the award to Tijuana plant manager Edgar Sanchez during a ceremony at the presidential residence in Mexico City on February 16. Nanda Kumar, president of Eaton’s Aerospace Group, also attended the event.

The award is the highest recognition at the national level, given annually to an organization that has designed and implemented a management model that drives differentiating capabilities, ensuring competitiveness and sustainability. Eaton’s Tijuana plant was the overall winner in the competition’s manufacturing category, based on a comprehensive, on-site evaluation conducted by a team of experts in October 2015.

“It is an honor to accept this prestigious award on behalf of our entire Aerospace team,” said Kumar. “Our Tijuana facility represents what’s best about Eaton and serves as a benchmark for our facilities around the world. We are proud to have contributed to Mexico’s economic vitality for the past 10 years through our work here.”

The National Quality Award is comparable to the Malcolm Baldrige of the United States, the Deming Prize of Japan and the European Foundation for Quality Administration Prize of the European Union.

"The government of the Republic is removing the barriers that limited the development of our economy,” said President Nieto during the ceremony. “You, the winners of the National Quality Award, are demonstrating levels of excellence that are being achieved in Mexico, in manufacturing, energy, tourism and health, and in all productive activities.”

The facility opened in 2006 and is part of the Aerospace Group’s Fluid and Electrical Distribution Division. The facility employs 530 people and manufactures and assembles conveyance system products for military and commercial aerospace applications. These products include components used in fluid distribution for aircraft, such as solenoid valves, electrical switches, tubes and ducts.

Eaton’s Tijuana plant has been recognized internally and externally as a top flight manufacturing facility. Recent awards include:

  • Eaton Business Model Plant, Industrial Sector (2015)
  • Eaton World Class Performance (2015)
  • Eaton Chairman’s Safety Award (2014)
  • Industria Limpia (Clean Industry) Award from the Mexican Environmental Agency (2012, 2014);
  • Baja California Quality Award (2013)

“We are proud to be recognized for our efforts to maintain high standards in safety, quality, communication and sustainability,” said Sanchez. “Our entire team, from Aerospace leadership to our plant employees, played a role in this achievement.”
