HANNOVER, Germany… Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation announced it has supplied key hybrid power technology and expertise to Daimler Trucks’ Mercedes Benz BlueTec® Atego Hybrid, part of the new Mercedes-Benz Atego range of trucks named 2011 Truck of the Year. The award was presented at the recent IAA Show in Hanover, Germany, the world’s largest commercial vehicle event.
Eaton supplied a hybrid system which included the lithium-ion battery pack and electric motor for the Mercedes-Benz Atego BlueTec® Hybrid, and worked closely with Daimler to jointly develop the power management logic and controls. An expert jury of commercial vehicle journalists and editors selected the new Mercedes-Benz Atego for the title based on its standard of excellence as an urban distribution truck and its innovative hybrid drive system.
“The Mercedes-Benz Atego BlueTec® Hybrid was seen by the jury as paving the way for alternative drive systems and Eaton is proud to have provided key fuel-saving technologies for this award-winning truck,” said Dimitri Kazarinoff, vice president and general manager for Eaton’s Hybrid Power Systems Division. “Our system complements the versatile Mercedes-Benz Atego, and we are delighted with the great strides our company has made in helping customers achieve their fuel and CO2 reduction goals with green technologies like our hybrid electric system.”
The Mercedes-Benz Atego BlueTec® Hybrid includes a customized Eaton hybrid system and was the first hybrid truck in Europe to gain European Type Approval.
