Eaton Products Are at Work on A Vuong Hydropower Plant in Vietnam

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. … Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation today announced that Eaton products are providing key hydraulic functions on the newly inaugurated A Vuong Hydropower Plant, located in the province of Quang Nam in Central Vietnam.

Prime contractor Machines and Industrial Equipment Corporation (MIE) of Hanoi, Vietnam, selected Eaton hydraulic products for the Electricity of Vietnam plant, inaugurated July 13, 2010, that is providing electric power to 1 million people, thereby contributing to economic restructuring and poverty reduction in Vietnam.

Six Eaton Hydrowa® XL Series double-acting cylinders, weighing 28,000 pounds each with a bore size of 450 mm (17.7 inches), are providing a force of 182 tons to open and close the plant’s three spillway gates. Three sets of Eaton PVQ piston pumps and DG valves are performing hydraulic power unit functions on the gates.

Eaton products were supplied for the $210 million (USD) hydropower plant by Industrial Technology Company (Inteco), a mechanical integrator based in Hanoi. The project generated approximately $900,000 (USD) for Eaton’s Hydraulics Group.

“The capability of Eaton’s Eindhoven, Netherlands, custom cylinder plant to meet a very short delivery schedule—six cylinders in just seven months—was a deciding factor in MIE’s selection of Eaton components,” said George Hendro, general sales manager—Eaton Industries Pte. Ltd.

“In addition, our partnership with Inteco enabled us to propose functional, process, and onsite assistance benefits that offered significant value over the competition. This important business win will help strengthen our expertise even more in the Vietnam hydropower and dam market.”
