LANDOVER, MD … President Barack Obama on Friday highlighted the National Clean Fleets Partnership, a public-private partnership that will help companies reduce diesel and gasoline use in their fleets by incorporating electric vehicles, alternative fuels and fuel-saving measures into their daily operations. The President announced the commitment of the Partnership’s five charter members: AT&T, FedEx, PepsiCo, UPS, and Verizon, many of whom deploy delivery and utility vehicles featuring the hybrid systems of diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation.
Vehicles on display at the event with Eaton’s hybrid electric system included multiple UPS delivery vans and a Pepsi beverage delivery truck. Eaton offers the world’s most complete line-up of hybrid systems for commercial vehicle applications including Eaton hybrid electric, plug-in hybrid electric and hybrid hydraulic power systems.
“The Clean Fleets Partnership involving several of our Eaton customers will help create additional demand for these energy-efficient, innovative technologies that will create jobs, cut pollution and reduce the use of petroleum,” said Ken Davis, president – Eaton Vehicle Group. “As a leading global supplier of hybrid technologies, Eaton supports efforts to increase these advanced technology vehicles in the United States and around the world.”
More than 4,500 of Eaton’s hybrid systems are in use today on city buses, school buses, package delivery trucks, beverage delivery trucks, refrigerated delivery trucks, refuse and recycling trucks, utility vehicles and other commercial applications. Customers of its hybrid systems have collectively accumulated more than 100 million miles of service, reducing fuel consumption by 4 million gallons of diesel fuel and harmful emissions by 40,000 metric tons.
Benefits of the Eaton hybrid systems include fuel savings up to 35 percent, with similar percentages in emission reductions, extended brake life and idle time reductions of up to 87 percent during work site operations which helps customers to significantly reduce their operating costs.
