Eaton to Power Electric Vehicles at 2011 EDTA Conference

Date: April 13, 2011

Will showcase hybrid systems and EV charging technology at major D.C. trade show

PITTSBURGH… Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation today announced it will provide charging stations for electric vehicles (EVs) at the Electric Drive Transportation Association (EDTA) 2011 Conference and Innovation Motorcade. Kicking off with an EV motorcade on Capitol Hill, the event will be held during Earth Week, April 19-21, at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C. The charging stations showcase Eaton’s robust, flexible offering of electric vehicle supply equipment.

Highlighting electric drive technology, the Innovation Motorcade and Ride, Drive and Charge event begins at noon on Tuesday, April 19, on Capitol Hill. Featuring 25 electric vehicles with police escorts, the motorcade will stop at key locations throughout the capitol, including the White House and the U.S. Department of Transportation. It will end at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center where Eaton will feature an EV ride and drive and a tent with its hybrid systems and charging station displays.

“Eaton is pleased to participate in this important conference and showcase the benefits, advancements and feasibility of a safe and reliable electric vehicle infrastructure that supports cleaner transportation,” said Tom Schafer, vice president and general manager, Eaton’s Electrical Sector. “With a range of innovative products and services, Eaton is helping to create the critical infrastructure for EV corridors, advance the aggressive early adoption of clean transportation, and reduce customers’ impact on the environment.”

This motorcade reinforces the conference’s theme, “Electric Drive, the Time is Now,” and is intended to showcase electric vehicles to industry stakeholders, media and visitors in one of the most influential cities in the world for addressing energy and environmental issues.

Eaton will also provide panelists for the EDTA conference workshops. Eaton’s Mike Dixon, national sales director, Electric Transportation Infrastructure Business Unit, will represent Eaton during the “Supplier Perspective Panel: Partners in Our Future” workshop, and Gerard DeVito, director of Engineering, Hybrid Power Systems Division, will serve on the “Fleet Applications: Electric Drive Powers the Future” panel.

The EDTA annual conference is a premier event for automakers, battery, charging and other electric drive infrastructure companies, utilities, policymakers, media and non-governmental organizations. This year’s event includes keynote addresses from U.S. Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood and Edison International Chairman and chief executive officer, Ted Craver, and aims to demonstrate how electric drive technology will be an essential part of the solution to the economic, energy and environmental challenges created by U.S. foreign oil dependence.

The Electric Drive Transportation Association (EDTA) is the preeminent trade association representing battery, hybrid, plug-in hybrid and fuel cell electric drive technologies and infrastructure.  EDTA conducts public policy advocacy, education, industry networking, and international conferences.  EDTA’s membership includes vehicle and equipment manufacturers, energy companies, technology developers, component suppliers, and others.  For more information about EDTA and its members, visit http://www.electricdrive.org.
