Eaton has launched the Eaton 5PX, a line-interactive UPS featuring functionalities that are highly valued by IT managers. The 5PX meters the energy consumption of every device protected by the UPS, and its large, intuitive LCD display provides IT managers with excellent manageability – something that really makes the product stand out from its competitors. The 5PX also features an industry-leading power factor of 0.9, which enables it to protect more devices than competing products. As a successor to the proven Eaton Evolution® S, this next-generation UPS, with a power range of 1.5 to 3 kVA, continues to offer high-density protection for IT devices such as servers, switchers, routers and storage devices.
The possibility of metering energy consumption down to the socket-group level has been put into practice for the first time in the UPS industry. The measurements can be easily monitored through the 5PX’s LCD display or via the network with Eaton’s power management software. The data acquired is essential in helping IT managers optimise the functioning of their server rooms.
“The individual energy consumption metering of devices is a feature no competitor can offer. It allows the administrator not only to have a clear picture of the efficiency of each UPS installed but also the energy usage of the various pieces of equipment protected. This helps in maximising the efficiency of the server room and thus in reducing energy costs,” explains product manager Christophe Jammes at Eaton’s Power Quality division.
An easy-to-manage UPS that protects more devices
The 5PX features an intuitive LCD display, available in seven languages. The large screen allows IT managers to get all the data they need at a single glance. Its status and most important measurements are available without the need to scroll up and down, which saves administrators’ time. Configuration is also simple.
“The innovative configuration capabilities enable the administrator to intuitively change the UPS parameters right on the screen, making it unnecessary to connect the UPS to a PC for configuration,” Jammes says.
“Its high manageability also includes the possibility to monitor the functioning of the UPS through the network with Eaton’s Intelligent Power software products, available as free downloads from Eaton’s website.”
The industry-leading output power factor of 0.9 provides 28 per cent more power compared to traditional UPSs with a 0.7 power factor. The higher the factor, the more output power the UPS provides and the more devices it protects. This increases savings by decreasing the number of UPSs needed, and also reduces space requirements and energy consumption.
Battery life is a major contributor to the UPS’s performance. Compared to Evolution S, the 5PX’s reliability has been improved by applying Eaton’s ABM® technology. The ABM is a battery-charging method that allows the batteries to rest between charging cycles. This extends battery life considerably, which decreases the maintenance costs due to the prolonged service and replacement cycle.
The 5PX has an excellent efficiency of up to 99 per cent and all 5PX products employ a RT format, meaning they can be installed in both the rack and tower position. The 5PX is available now in all EMEA countries.
