Eaton Offers the Perfect Combination of Filter Cartridges for Pre-Filtration and Final Filtration of Mineral Water and Table Water

Date: 8/01/2017

LANGENLONSHEIM, GERMANY … The Filtration Division of power management company Eaton provides innovative filtration solutions for the global food and beverage industry. Eaton recently expanded its range of BECO® pre- and membrane filter cartridges. BECO PROTECT PG™ or BECO PROTECT PP Pure™ pre-filter cartridges and the new BECO MEMBRAN PS Aqua™ membrane filter cartridge offer the perfect combination of pre-filtration and final filtration for natural and clear mineral water and table water.

For water filtration, a two-stage pre-filtration system effectively protects downstream membranes. In the first stage, a pre-filter from the BECO PROTECT PG range with a retention rating (ß ratio ≥ 5000) of 10 µm is used as a particle filter. Depending on the filterability of the water, in the next stage a second pre-filter helps ensure optimal preparation of the water for the next step, membrane filtration, by reducing the very fine particles that can result in premature membrane blockage. BECO PROTECT PG pre-filter cartridges with a retention rating of 0.3 to 1 µm can act as a fine filter. If a high flow rate is required for the filtration process and the water can be easily filtered, a BECO PROTECT PP Pure pre-filter cartridge in 1.2 µm can replace this two-stage pre-filtration system. In either case, the BECO MEMBRAN PS Aqua membrane filter cartridge, which can be tested for integrity and has an absolute retention rating of 0.2 µm, is recommended for final filtration.

The polypropylene fleece of the BECO PROTECT PG pre-filter cartridge are produced individually and are wrapped around the inner core from the outside in at a ratio of 10:1, creating a stable, increasingly tight funnel with a high particle retention capacity. Wrapping in layers from coarse to fine also improves mechanical stability and enables effective backwashing at up to 2 bar and 80 degrees Celsius.

The multi-layer, pleated polypropylene fleece of the BECO PROTECT PP Pure pre-filter cartridge are particularly suitable for the filtration of homogenous particle sizes. The large filter area enables high throughput. In the case of cartridge housings that are designed too small, they maximize performance with the same number of filter cartridges and avoid new investments in larger systems.

The BECO MEMBRAN PS Aqua membrane filter cartridge is specifically designed for mineral water and table water filtration. The filter material consists of pleated polyethersulfone providing high microbiological retention; and its special, asymmetrical pore size distribution optimizes flow, thereby maximizing flow rate and service life. With 0.75 square meters per 10-inch element, the filter area is designed to support effective handling of high volume inflows. The fully welded design with additional polypropylene support fleece increases mechanical stability, withstands a differential pressure of 5 bar in and 2 bar against the direction of flow at 20 degrees Celsius, as well as more than 100 steam cycles. Another advantage is the wide chemical compatibility (pH 1 to 14), enabling various detergents to be used in the regeneration cycle.
