Eaton’s Grand Rapids Aerospace Facility awarded MVPP Star from The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA)

Date: September 28, 2017

The site was honored with the award for developing and maintaining an outstanding health and safety management system

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — On September 27, 2017, Power management company Eaton’s Grand Rapids Aerospace facility received the Michigan Voluntary Protection Program (MVPP) Star Award for having an outstanding health and safety management system. Achieving MVPP Star status shows the industry and community that the company is a leader in health and safety and is promoted as a model workplace.

The Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) is one of several Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) programs that encourages private and public sectors to improve occupational health and safety at their facilities. Companies that wish to participate in this program are given a set of criteria that is designed to evaluate and recognize outstanding health and safety management systems.

“To receive the MVPP Star site recognition is a key milestone in the Grand Rapids journey that validates the team's commitment to Choosing Zero,” said Wade White, director of operations, North America. White was the previous plant manager at Grand Rapids who led efforts at the facility to reinvent Eaton’s Grand Rapids location as an industry model of health and safety standards.

“The level of passion and accountability the site has demonstrated to achieve this designation from MIOSHA is setting the standard of what a world-class manufacturing site looks like,” said White.

“The site was able to achieve MVPP Star because of site-wide engagement and deploying our health and safety process consistently,” said Chris Lintner, environmental health and safety manager. “This achievement is an example of how processes and teamwork come together to build a world-class culture and obtain such a recognition.”

To qualify for the MVPP Star award, companies must have an exceptional health and safety management system in place and have the desire and commitment to take existing health and safety protocols a step further to achieve the highest level of excellence. To be considered for the MVPP Star award, companies must submit a formal application and undergo an extensive on-site validation assessment.

“Earning MVPP Star status is a great validation of being a learning organization,” said Jason LaTour, plant manager. “Understanding risks and taking action for mitigation are fundamentally part of our culture. I am extremely proud of our team in this fantastic success on our journey to become a world-class manufacturing site.”
