Eaton expands WaveLinx commercial smart lighting system to bring automatic code compliance, greater campus-level control to building networks

Date: May 9, 2018

PEACHTREE CITY, GA — Power management company Eaton today announced the expansion of its award-winning WaveLinx Wireless Connected Lighting System, broadening its application from stand-alone facilities to include building networks. With Eaton’s Lighting Xpert Insight software, the WaveLinx system offers connectivity with other Internet of Things (IoT) and smart building management systems to bring deeper level insights and wireless control of indoor and outdoor lighting to commercial facility managers and property owners. In addition, the latest mobile app enhancements help reduce system commissioning updates by up to 30 percent.

“Just as we expect any building to have a Wi-Fi network today, connected lighting systems are becoming a standard for newly constructed or renovated facilities,” said Ken Walma, vice president and general manager, Connected Buildings, Eaton’s Lighting Division. “With enhanced insights into facility data, such as light level, occupancy, power consumption and device status, we are helping facility directors and sustainability officers leverage lighting to make more proactive, informed decisions. This establishes a foundation that can expand to incorporate additional data analytics needs and capabilities.”

From office buildings and medical buildings to college campuses, commercial building owners and facility managers want their various automation systems, including lighting, HVAC and elevators, to be fully integrated. They also want to unlock the value of the data collected by these sub-systems by analyzing it using their business insight platforms. WaveLinx's Lighting Xpert Insight 6.1 integrates the connected lighting system with building automation systems and smart building platforms using BACnet/IP and REST APIs.

WaveLinx also offers the industry’s first “Smart Tips” capabilities to deliver alerts in real-time and provide suggested steps to address them, reducing the time spent and cost of troubleshooting.

Designed for plug-and-play connectivity with automatic energy code compliance, WaveLinx commissioning enhancements include automatic firmware updates as devices join the network. This further reduces installation time for electrical contractors and brings greater flexibility to facility managers looking to expand or make updates to the system.

Eaton’s WaveLinx system expansion includes:
  • Insights Manager Pro, Enterprise, and Virtual
  • Halo RL56 downlight for light commercial settings
  • 347-volt switchpack
  • 7-pin outdoor lighting control module
  • 20-amp controlled receptacle
  • Open loop daylighting sensor
  • Several commissioning updates and user enhancements to the mobile application
