Eaton’s Electrohydraulic System Increases Automation and Control on Wastech Refuse Trucks Resulting in Almost Effortless Front-Lift Functionality

Date: May 16, 2012

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. … Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation today announced that Wastech Engineering P/L of Hallam, Victoria, Australia, has selected Eaton® components to increase automation and control on its EVO31 refuse trucks, resulting in almost effortless front-lift functionality.

The trucks are equipped with a complete Eaton F(x)™ advanced electrohydraulic system, featuring an electronic controller, display screen, joystick, screw-in cartridge valves, and hose and fittings.

Eaton’s innovative mobile platform-based controller effectively manages the main control valve under varying voltages, making the trucks more stable.

The Eaton F(x) solution utilizes a Controller Area Network (CAN) joystick that is especially applicable to commercial vehicles in a far simpler design and provides a “fail safe” operation that is inert to voltage fluctuations.  By reading CAN information from the truck engine’s electronic control unit, the system generates important data about the truck’s operation and thereby enables the operator to respond as needed.

“With total control of the truck’s hydraulic and electrohydraulic systems, Eaton components have helped Wastech offer a much smoother operating truck,” said Mark Newson, Eaton sales engineer.

Another innovative element of the system is Eaton’s VFX 100m 10.4-inch touch-screen control panel, which Eaton adapted to accept four camera feeds.
