Eaton’s Warwick Wellness Team Wins Top Worksite Health Award
Date: July 26, 2012
WARWICK, R.I. … Employees of diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation’s aerospace facility in Warwick, R.I., received the top worksite health award from the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island at the 18th Annual Worksite Wellness Health Award Breakfast. The Warwick Wellness Team achieved the “exemplary” award level, the highest in the recognition program.
The award program was designed to pay tribute to Rhode Island companies and their employees who demonstrate an understanding of the value of health and fitness through the creation and implementation of worksite wellness programs. The awards ceremony was held May 23 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel at the Crossings in Warwick.
“We’ve been very pleased to see the high level of enthusiasm and employee engagement as a result of our Wellness Team’s efforts,” said Marvin Pelser, Warwick plant manager. “Employee interest and participation in health-related activities have been steadily increasing, and employees will surely reap the benefits of leading healthier lifestyles thanks to Eaton’s wellness programs.”
The Warwick Wellness Team was formed in January 2011 to promote Eaton’s “Powering You to Live Well” employee campaign and the “five pillars of fitness” — exercise, a healthy diet, being tobacco free, managing stress and getting regular checkups. The Warwick team has sponsored a number of activities to increase employee involvement, including fitness walks, “Free Fruit Fridays” at the site, free health screenings and monthly wellness newsletters.
“Eaton has always encouraged employees to make their health a priority,” said Ed Cullen, design engineer at Eaton’s facility and leader of the Warwick Wellness Team. “To reinforce that message, our team distributes information and sponsors activities year-round that emphasize the importance of healthy habits, both at work and at home.”
Eaton employees also participate in occupational safety and health programs that emphasize accident and injury prevention.
