Eaton’s Broad Product Content on KC-46 Tanker Facilitates Faster In-Flight Refueling for Improved Mission Support

Date: July 27, 2012

Cleveland Products made by diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation will be significant contributors to the new KC-46 Tanker’s advanced capabilities, especially its core mission of refueling aircraft in flight. Eaton has been selected by The Boeing Company to supply the aerial refueling pump system, the aerial refueling boom nozzle and a variety of additional products for the KC-46. The value of the contract has not been disclosed.

“Eaton’s content on the KC-46 is a great example of our comprehensive product portfolio and innovative technologies that are driving next-generation platform advancements,” said Einar Johnson, vice president of Eaton’s Aerospace Group. “Playing a key role on the KC-46 supplier team is an opportunity for Eaton to extend our proven capabilities to the world’s most advanced aerial refueling tanker.”

Eaton’s aerial refueling pump system is designed to facilitate faster in-flight refueling for improved mission support. Eaton also is supplying various airframe and aerial refueling system valves and an additional number of components used in fuel systems and actuation applications.

All of Eaton’s aerospace divisions will contribute content to the KC-46, including hydraulic and fuel distribution sub-components, cargo door electro-mechanical actuation systems, hydraulic system components, electrical sensing and control devices and cockpit controls.

Boeing reports that the KC-46 program has completed all milestones on or ahead of schedule, with first flight scheduled to take place in early 2015.
