Eaton Recognized as an American Heart Association Platinum Level Fit-Friendly Company
Date: August 8, 2012
CLEVELAND … Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation today announced it has received the American Heart Association’s (AHA) top award for promoting health and physical activity in the workplace for the second year in a row. In 2010, Eaton received Gold-Level Status.
Eaton received the national AHA award in recognition of its aggressive health, fitness, stress management and tobacco-free initiatives in all facilities across the United States. Eaton’s Platinum-Level award showcases the company’s global wellness initiatives that include a healthier cafeteria, healthier catering and vending machine choices, fitness activities, stress management programs, free preventative healthcare services and tobacco cessation initiatives. Companies achieving Platinum-Level status implement at least nine criteria outlined by the American Heart Association in the areas of physical activity, nutrition and culture.
“By promoting worksite wellness and fitness in our facilities in the U.S. and around the world we hope to promote a safe and enjoyable workplace for our employees,” said Ellen Collier, Eaton vice president of compensation and benefits. “We hold our employees’ well-being in the highest regard, and we are honored to be recognized for our efforts.”
Platinum-Level employers offer employees physical activity options in the workplace, healthy eating options at the worksite and workplace wellness culture. The Fit-Friendly Companies program is a catalyst for positive change in the American workforce by helping companies make their employees’ health and wellness a priority.
“The Fit-Friendly Companies Program offers a unique, easy-to-implement opportunity for corporations to increase employees’ physical activity, which will help improve their health – and their employer’s bottom line,” said Katie Purdy, regional director of the American Heart Association’s Heart Walk. “Even people who haven’t exercised regularly until middle age can reap significant benefits by starting a walking program.”
The American Heart Association is devoted to saving people from heart disease and stroke – American’s No. 1 and No. 4 killers. We team with millions of volunteers to fund innovative research, fight for stronger public health policies, and provide lifesaving tools and information to prevent and treat these diseases. The Dallas-based association is the nation’s oldest and largest voluntary organization dedicated to fighting heart diseases and stroke.
