Eaton’s Electrical Sector, a leading manufacturer of components and systems for electrical engineering and automation, joined forces recently with the Electrical Training Trust (ETT) in Northern Ireland to deliver specialist training for apprentice electricians as part of the ETT’s Apprentice Week training event. The training was delivered by Eaton Sales Engineer for Northern Ireland, Ivan Brown, to groups of apprentices over two days at the ETT’s training centre just outside of Ballymena in County Antrim and provided invaluable advice on electrical and building regulations as well as an important insight onto how a global company operates.

After providing an overview of Eaton and its electrical products, Ivan’s presentation went on to explain exactly what several important electrical and building regulations, such as the 17th Edition of the Wiring Regulations, Part M and the DDA (Disability Discrimination Act) and Part L2 of the Building Regulations, mean for electrical contractors. He then offered practical advice and solutions for meeting these requirements using the latest electrical protection devices, consumer units, wiring accessories, panelboards and metering products before giving the apprentices an insight into Eaton’s Green Building Solutions and an overview of motor control and protection considerations. The presentation finished with a short quiz to enable the apprentices to check their understanding of the presentation and ask any further questions they had.

Commenting on the event, Ivan Brown said: “It was great to be involved with the ETT on a local level and the feedback we had from the apprentices was extremely positive. Being able to speak directly to the next generation of electricians was an invaluable experience for me too. We are hoping to be involved with more of these types of events in the future such as a seminar on energy and efficiency savings.”

ETT is a specialist training provider dedicated to supporting and helping individuals, businesses, employers and professionals working in Ireland to improve their knowledge and competence. The Apprentice Week event organised by the ETT provided around 50 apprentices with the chance to hear from a number of leading experts, ranging from Northern Ireland-based companies to worldwide manufacturers – all agreeing to impart their valuable knowledge to the apprentices.
