Improving energy efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to combat climate change are central to Eaton’s overall commitment to sustainability. More than a responsibility, sustainability is pivotal to the company’s future success, helping us to drive the energy efficient power management solutions customers and consumers need and the world demands.

Part of Eaton’s efforts to improve environmental performance is to work with groups like the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), an independent, not-for-profit organization holding the largest public database of primary corporate climate change information in the world.

Many organizations, including CDP, have identified Eaton as a world leader in sustainability and in communicating our efforts to reduce GHG emissions. By measuring and disclosing GHG emissions and climate change strategies through CDP, we can benchmark against other organizations, set reasonable reduction targets, and make performance improvements.

Each year, Eaton, along with nearly 3,000 other companies worldwide, collect data for response to CDP’s questionnaire, including GHG emissions, energy efficiency, potential risks and opportunities created by global warming, and more. CDP posts the data and issues its rankings of worldwide corporations in September, at which time Eaton logs its information on the company’s sustainability web site.

In 2012, Eaton achieved recognition in the 2012 CDP S&P 500 Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI), as well as the CDP S&P 500 Carbon Performance Leadership Index (CPLI). Scores in both indices are based on a questionnaire reviewed and scored by CDP.

Eaton earned a prestigious “A” grade and a score of 94 (out of 100), which placed us among only 15 companies in the S&P 500 to qualify for CPLI. The CPLI highlights the top companies that have demonstrated a strong approach to climate strategy and emissions reduction in their CDP responses.
