Microgrid

A full-scale operational microgrid powers the lighting, HVAC and house loads for a major part of the PSEC Our microgrid features Eaton’s Power Xpert Energy Optimizer controller and is used as a “live” platform for testing control advancements. The microgrid controller intelligently manages multiple sources including solar, energy storage, generation, the utility supply. It provides power continuity for PSEC for short- and long-term utility interruptions. Key features and demonstrations include peak shaving, photovoltaic (PV) smoothing and shifting, demand management and response, seamless islanding and reconnect to grid, long term islanding illustrating optimal use of resources, black start from generator or energy storage, grid connected power factor and voltage regulation.

Overcurrent protection workshop

Description: Get hands-on experience learning how to apply overcurrent protection schemes in the Eaton Power Systems three-day Distribution Overcurrent Protection Workshop. Any engineer who is involved with design or operation of overcurrent protection schemes for utilities or industry will benefit. The workshop will be more beneficial to you if you have a working knowledge of overcurrent protection devices. Topics include system coordination rules and procedures, fuse-to-fuse expulsion and current- limiting coordination, transformer protection, reclosers and sectionalizers, and CYME Power Engineering Software contact PSEC@eaton.com.

Power quality monitoring

Description: The Power Quality Monitoring program enables you to identify power quality problems or perform measurements of sags, swells, voltage transients, harmonic distortion, and voltage flicker. More than 50% of the time in this training program is dedicated to hands-on practice using a variety of popular models of portable and panel-mount power monitors. Students are also encouraged to bring their own analyzers to learn new uses for them in our state-of-the-art training laboratory. Electrical and arc flash safety

Description: This course will help you become familiar with the practical implications of OSHA 29CFR1910.269 and Article 130 of NFPA 70E, including: hazards associated with electrical work, electrical shock severity and effects, lockout/tagout and the general requirements of an energy control program, general requirements for protective grounding equipment, determining the appropriate size for portable grounding conductors, procedure for using temporary grounding conductors, testing for the presence of voltage, energized electrical work permit, job briefing, distinguishing live parts from other parts, procedure for safe use of voltage detectors, and many other topics. Basic electrical testing and switchgear

Description: Instructor-led training for obtaining Eaton Electrical Engineering Services and Systems Division's GFSC Level 2 Live Work Competency Sign-off and Certification. Topics include: insulation-resistance tests, dielectric tests, low-resistance tests, current-injection tests, PowerDB forms, introduction to automatic transfer products, Magnum DS racking, hoisting and phase displacement at tie, establishing Magnum DS into an electrically-safe work condition, VCP-W interlocks and control, CloSure measurement, test and inspect CPTs, VTs, and CTs, commissioning Ampgard Triton SL, inspection of Ampgard SJA, and inspection of MSB Load-Interrupter Switch. Industrial power systems analysis

Description: Upon completion of the Industrial Power Systems Analysis I training program you will be able to recognize the several forms of power-system single-line diagrams, calculate short-circuit current and evaluate the application of power circuit breakers and power fuses. Using classroom exercises and demonstrations, this training program reviews the fundamental techniques of power systems analysis. Although this training program is not intended to teach the use of power-systems analysis software, the instructors will use lap-top computers in the classroom and review examples created with SKM Power Tools for Windows to help explain the construction of system single-line diagrams and the calculation of short-circuit current. Description: Microgrid design and management are becoming increasingly critical in the evolution of the power grid.
