Prior to membrane filtration, a sample is filtered under defined and reproducible conditions (constant pressure) through a reference membrane. Depending on the filtered sample volume, the filterability of the medium is considered 'good', if a defined sample quantity is reached. If this sample quantity is not reached, further measures for improving filterability are required.
