Sound Testing Facility
A hemi-anechoic chamber is an important capability in Eaton’s commitment to addressing the global, market-driven demand for low-noise components that have improved sound quality. The state-of-the-art sound testing facility enables Eaton engineers to design inherently quiet hydraulic components and systems, which are must-haves on today’s mobile and industrial equipment, through modeling, simulation, and low-noise characteristic verification. The certified facility ensures customers that the data is of the highest quality and accuracy.
It provides complete noise and/or vibration testing of hydraulic components, integrated systems, and customer applications (vehicles) per industry standards, such as ISO, NFPA, and DIN.
The sound chamber is also used to validate Boundary Element Method (BEM) noise-prediction models and benchmark the competition to establish direct noise comparisons—critical capabilities supporting Eaton’s strong emphasis on Noise, Vibration, and Harshness (NVH) modeling and simulation efforts. The large size of the facility (19 feet long, 19 feet wide, 12 feet high) allows technicians to complete NVH engineering analysis on smaller vehicles and stationary power units. Ranking overall noise levels on customer vehicles and providing noise reduction solutions outside the realm of hydraulic components are other key functions of the sound testing facility.
