Built upon the Fuller manual, UltraShift PLUS uses an electronic clutch actuator to provide faster shifting and smoother engagement. At idle, it fully engages the clutch giving the driver ultimate control in parking lots, loading docks and other tight spaces.
And, the UltraShift PLUS provides a new level of integration with engine, truck and drivetrain components to give you the optimal mix of performance and economy. Each unit can be customized for its unique operational needs.

- Fully automated two-pedal design (no clutch pedal)
- Electronic Clutch Actuator (ECA) provides smooth engagement. UltraShift PLUS Linehaul Series provides maximum controllability for forward and reverse operations, even on steep grades. Enhanced maneuverability at lower and reverse speeds makes backing up even easier.
- Solo Advantage self-adjusting clutch with durable ceramic facings.
- Hill Start Aid Prevents unintended roll back or roll
forward. When the grade exceeds one percent, foundation brakes hold the truck for up to three seconds for a controlled launch. It works when pointing uphill in drive or facing downhill in reverse. - Skip Shifting To increase shifting efficiency, the UltraShift PLUS automatically skips unnecessary gears. This helps increase acceleration to achieve cruising speed quickly and smoothly. It also lets the driver begin the acceleration in the appropriate start gear based on load and grade.
- Creep Mode - Optional for UltraShift PLUS LAS and LSE, Creep Mode enables the driver to “creep” at less than one foot per second, and offers ultimate control for curbing, spreading and paving. Because UltraShift PLUS is an automated manual, there’s no “urge to move” often found in torque converter transmissions, increasing safety in slow-speed maneuvers.
- NEUTRAL COAST MODE: Saves fuel by engaging neutral on slight downhill grades. This allows the engine speed to drop to idle while high-tech electronics ensure safe operation in all road conditions.
- Oil level sight glass allows for quicker preventative maintenance
- GEAR SELECTION LOGIC: The appropriate starting gear is selected and makes shift decisions based on grade, vehicle weight, engine torque and throttle position—skip shifting when appropriate, making the most efficient shift changes based on those conditions.
- ENGINE OVERSPEED PROTECTION: The transmission system upshifts if necessary to prevent engine overspeed in Drive, Manual and Low modes.
- AUTOMATIC GRADE BRAKING: Downshifts the transmission to help slow the truck on long, steep descents and increases brake pad life.
- AUTO NEUTRAL: Automatically switches the transmission into neutral once the parking brake is engaged to prevent potential movement. Safety features like these not only reduce accidents, but can also help meet the latest CSA regulations.
- ACTIVE SHIFTING: A load-based feature that allows the clutch the option to actively open and close during a shift or remain connected to the flywheel (also called “float” shifting).
- ENHANCED ENGINE BRAKING: Provides maximum engine braking to 600 horsepower or more.
- SHUTTLE SHIFTING: Shuttle shifting from Reverse to any forward mode is allowed only if the vehicle speed is at or near zero.
- MULTIPLE OPERATING MODES: Automatic, Manual and Low modes offer the driver full control. In Manual mode, the driver can override computerized shifts on demand. Using Low mode can help maximize engine braking and reduce wear on brakes.

Cummins Westport ISX12 G with UltraShift PLUS
For customers who run natural gas vehicles and also want smoother shifting and better drivability, the Cummins Westport ISX12 G engine can now be paired with either the UltraShift PLUS automated transmission or the Eaton Fuller Advantage™ Series manual transmission. This is the first spark ignited engine to be paired with an automated transmission in the North American market.
The Cummins Westport ISX12 G natural gas engine with heavy-duty durability is based on the Cummins ISX12 diesel engine and operates on 100 percent natural gas which can be carried on the vehicle in either compressed (CNG) or liquefied (LNG) form. Ideally suited for regional haul applications, the ISX12 G has a robust power band at 1500-1800 rpm and delivers excellent responsiveness with peak torque at 1200 rpm. This industry leading heavy-duty natural gas engine is available with horsepower of 320 - 400hp (239 - 298 kW) with 1450 lb-ft (1966 n M) peak torque.
The UltraShift PLUS automated transmission is available in six models for linehaul and vocational use. For this package, the 10-speed Linehaul Active Shifting (LAS) in both direct drive and over-drive configurations and the 13-speed Multipurpose High Performance (MHP) applications will be offered to satisfy linehaul and regional haul customer needs. Each transmission offers maximum power capacity, superior acceleration and low-speed maneuverability.
