Versatility, in one, unique, cost effective package, Eaton’s Cutler-Hammer MP-4000 motor protection relay combines all the features required to ensure protection, fault diagnostics, power metering and communication. The MP-4000 expands upon industry-leading protection, control and diagnostics found in the MP-3000 by adding voltage inputs from Voltage Transformers (VT). The VT inputs enable additional protection functions and metering such as:
- under/over-voltage
- negative sequence voltage,
- power factor and frequency.
Other upgraded features include new metering capabilities and new communication options like Modbus RTU and Device Net. Reliable construction, flexible features and user-friendly operation make the MP-4000 an industry-leader in motor protection relays.

As well as the features mentioned above, the MP-4000 offers a number of additional features:
- Intel-I-Trip™, an algorithm created by Eaton to develop customer trip curves for both maximum protection and capacity utilization of the motor
- Industry-leading voltage sag ride-through at 20 cycles that can easily withstand most power quality events
- In accordance with the IEEE
- Conforms to the United Laboratories (UL) 1053 ground fault protection standard, thereby eliminating the need for a separate ground relay – saving wiring, space, time and money
- Motor Start Profile provides start logic control to protect the motor against excessive starts or starting the motor before it has sufficiently cooled for both line starters and reduced voltage starters
The event log provides motor operating records for the twenty most recent trips or alarm events, the one hundred most recent motor events, and the last four starts with accurate time and date stamping.
