UltraShift® Highway Value (HV) Transmission Available At Hino Trucks
CLEVELAND … Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation today announced that the UltraShift® Highway Value (HV) transmission will be offered by Hino Trucks on their 2009 model year 268A and 338 truck models, providing Hino customers significant fuel and operational savings over a conventional automatic.
By combining the UltraShift HV with the 268A and 338, Hino is offering its customers the opportunity to spec a Class 6 and 7 truck built for maximum fuel efficiency and simpler maintenance.
“The UltraShift transmission has been designed to be fuel efficient from the start,” said Fran Duffy, business unit manager, Eaton’s Light and Medium-Duty Transmission Division. “The UltraShift HV delivers fuel efficiency from about three miles per hour and up, where a conventional automatic wastes fuel until “lock-up” occurs at approximately 24 miles per hour.”
Recent tests conducted by an independent firm in accordance with SAE J1526 Joint TMC/SAE Fuel Consumption In-Service Test Procedure, Type III, measured the UltraShift HV transmission against a conventional automatic transmission and determined that the UltraShift HV transmission delivered fuel economy savings from six percent to 19 percent, depending on the duty cycle. With diesel prices currently at $3.70 per gallon, fuel savings for one truck that runs 25,000 in a year could range from $700 to $1,300 per year with the UltraShift HV transmission.
“Hino trucks have gained the reputation for superior fuel economy and providing owners with a low cost per mile option,” said Nick Vermet, senior vice president, sales, marketing and customer support, Hino Trucks. “Adding the Eaton UltraShift transmission to our lineup furthers this position and offers our customers a way to reduce their overall operating cost.”
The UltraShift HV transmission will be on display at this year’s Mid-America Truck Show and inside 12 Hino demo trucks touring the United States in April. For more information, visit your Hino dealer today.
The UltraShift HV transmission is a fully automated transmission system for Class 6 and 7 vehicles with diesel engines in the 195 to 260 horsepower range. The HV is capable of handling torque capacities up to 660 pounds per foot and loads up to 33,000 pounds gross vehicle weight. The UltraShift HV transmission is ideally suited for pickup/delivery, service/utility and recovery applications.
Additional key features and benefits of the UltraShift HV transmission include:
• No scheduled maintenance: no filters to change feature provide lower maintenance and reduced downtime costs.
• Hill assist: automatically minimizes rollback on up to 10 percent grades while the operator makes the transition from the brake pedal to the accelerator, which benefits the driver in both uphill and downhill stop/start situations.
• Modular design: provides more rapid service and reduced service costs.
• Commonality: electronics modules and shift controls used on other Fuller® manual and automated transmissions allow service providers to reduce service parts inventories and speed training and certification of technicians
