Airflex® Type CM Clutch Rating Specifications Updated to Accommodate Demanding Conditions of Today’s Marine Industry
Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation announces higher rating specifications on the Airflex® Product Line Type CM Clutches. Engineered to meet the increasing demand of today’s marine industry, the updated Airflex Type CM Clutch is adaptable to new or existing marine propulsion applications.

The rating specifications were updated based on input from manufacturers and distributors in the marine industry. The new ratings meet the marine industry need for increased torque and energy capacity, increased maximum operating speed for 35, 40 and 48 inch products, and updated ISO grade 24 balance specifications.

The new single piece friction pad with a maximum of 150 pounds per square inch (psi) increases torque and energy capacity. Ventilated friction shoes allow for greater heat dissipation to accommodate moderate slip applications.

As an improvement in maximum operating speed, 35, 40 and 48 inch Airflex Type CM products are now rated for maximum operation at 900 RPM.

The newly updated ISO grade 24 balance specifications minimize engine room vibration and improve drive component service life.

Drive component service life is also protected based on the design of the rubber tube. The rubber tube transmits torque through its sidewalls, cushioning damaging shock loads and protecting drive components. The construction of the rubber tube also serves to dampen the effects of torsional vibrations and its flexibility compensates for minor shaft misalignment and axial movement.

The Airflex Type CM Clutch rim is designed with male and female registers which allows the elements to be easily assembled into dual and triple arrangements. The dual or triple elements have twice or triple the torque capacity of a single element.

The Airflex Type CM Clutch is available in five sizes and is designed and manufactured with durable materials to provide long life, greater heat dissipation characteristics and improved service life for marine propulsion applications. The Airflex Type CM Clutch is backed by the Eaton Airflex product warranty.
