Volkswagen Twincharger
More power, improved performance, and better fuel economy — while still meeting strict emissions and regulatory requirements. That was the challenge Eaton faced when we partnered with Volkswagen to help the automobile company produce the first production-ready combination supercharger and turbocharger system for its 2006 Golf GT passenger vehicle. By combining the performance-enhancing elements of supercharging and turbocharging, Eaton helped to deliver the benefits of both technologies: the belt-driven Eaton supercharger provides high torque at low engine speeds; the turbocharger provides added performance at higher rpms. In addition, the carefully crafted combination system — called "Twincharger" — allowed Volkswagen to provide a smaller, more efficient engine in the Golf GT which has the added benefits of increased performance, reduced emissions, and 20 percent improved fuel efficiency over comparable models. The best of both worlds, "Twincharger" helped Volkswagen answer their consumers’ demands for performance and fuel efficiency in one cost-effective package.
