Eaton’s CBC-8000 capacitor bank control and GridAdvisor Insight optical sensor system combine to provide best-in-class monitoring and control for electrical distribution systems. The CBC-8000 control’s DNP3 master capability works in tandem with the optical sensor’s m410 optical processor to deliver real-time site data over SCADA communications as well as perform bank operations based on pre-defined parameters.

 

CBC-8000 control + Insight optical sensor = accuracy and precision

Eaton’s CBC-8000 capacitor bank control incorporates a DNP3 master specifically designed to interface with GridAdvisor Insight optical sensors to offer easy integration and full functionality. This approach offers a seamless data connection with digital medium voltage sensors . 

Though many points within a digital sensor may not be needed to perform capacitor bank control operations, utilities may benefit from the additional intelligence these data points can provide to other applications and business processes. The CBC-8000 control uses the sensor measurement values to operate the capacitor bank to utility business objectives as well as provide any measurement or operational value within the digital sensor to SCADA with Eaton’s unique DNP3 pass-through feature.  

Easy field upgrades with DNP3 master

Installation time for a typical three-phase system is less than three hours, resulting in significant deployment savings. Utilities may use existing deployed site infrastructure and established radio and communications in the CBC-8000 control, with a power source for the digital sensors. Purchase and install Eaton’s CBC-8000 hardware upgrade kit along with the GridAdvisor optical sensor package and update the communications DNP3 point maps.

Voltage and current measurements application options

Voltage and current can be measured in distribution, substation and underground locations. Eaton’s GridAdvisor Insight optical sensors are easily deployed with cabinet and a radio. Sensors can be ordered to support a stand-alone installation or to be integrated into other equipment either digitally via DNP3 protocol or via low energy analog outputs.
