SOL30/SOL30X-Safety solar switch

With the fireman's switches from Eaton’s Moeller series, the sun’s energy can be safely and efficiently harnessed. In the event of a fire, DC voltages of up to 1,000 V often continue to be present on the modules and the cables, even after the inverter has been enabled, making it almost impossible for firefighters to do their job. Fireman’s switches ensure the safety of firefighters by making it possible to disconnect the cables leading from the solar modules to the inverter at the touch of a button, either on site or via the local power utility.

De-energised at the touch of a button

The fireman’s switch must be installed along the DC cable in the immediate vicinity of the PV modules. As soon as the location of the fire has been disconnected from the local power supply, or the PV system has been deactivated locally, the undervoltage release in the fireman’s switch will automatically switch off the PV modules.


For small photovoltaic systems with one or two identical strings, the basic version of Eaton's proven fireman’s switch is ideal. With a current carrying capacity of 30 A at 1,000 V DC, it can safely switch all standard module types.


For photovoltaic systems consisting of several strings, Eaton offers pre-wired fireman's switches that combine 2, 3, 4 or 6 switch-disconnectors inside a single enclosure. In contrast to generator junction boxes, the individual strings are not connected in parallel, but can be separately connected to the inverter. This enables the use of multiple MPP trackers and helps to optimise the performance of the inverter.

Simple and protected

The fireman's switches are available with metric cable glands or MC4 sockets. For devices with metric cable glands, all cables connect via terminal blocks. As a result, installing the devices is quick and simple. The IP65 enclosure and the pressure compensation plug make the fireman’s switches ideal for outdoor use.
