Risk of using counterfeit circuit breakers

Any unauthorized modification or counterfeit circuit breaker can leave the breaker  incapable of performing its intended function.

The use of modified and counterfeit breakers may lead to overheating, short circuits, fires or explosions. Results can lead to destroyed property, injuries and even death.

FAQs on counterfeit breakers and the gray market

What is the biggest reason a contractor should be concerned about counterfeit circuit breakers?

Counterfeit circuit breakers put everyone at risk.

Your customers are at risk. They may have a faulty breaker installed. Lives could be in jeopardy.

Contractors also place their business and reputation at risk. Should something go wrong, questions will be asked about the decisions you made.

What is the gray market?

The gray market is a marketplace where the unintended sale of geniune products outside of the channel intended by the original manufacturer occurs.

Products in the gray market are sourced by a vareity of methods and sold "as new" but without a manufacturer relationship, support or warranty.

Products are often misrepresented. Buyers are often misinformed.

Why can't I use reconditioned molded case circuit breakers?

Molded case circuit breakers are not designed for modification, service, or refurbishing outside of Eaton operated facilities.

Unfortunately the practice of 3rd party reconditioning, using scavenged or counterfeited parts, is putting customer safety at risk.

We recommend that you do not try to procure reconditioned MCCBs.
