The ARCON® arc fault protection system is always used when enhanced personal protection is required that is over and above the requirements of the relevant standards.

ARCON® also protects your system

Low-voltage switchboard systems are put out of operation for several weeks due to the effects of an arc fault. If a redundant power supply is not available, this also results in unwanted production downtimes. Only an effective system protection can provide a solution here, so that the effects of the arc fault can be minimized and an immediate restoration of service is possible. Using ARCON® restricts the effects of the arc fault to its footpoints. After the cause of the fault has been rectified and the quenching device has been exchanged, the system can be made ready for operation in the shortest possible time in order to ensure the required availability.

The effects of arc faults are extremely serious

The effects of arc faults are extremely serious and range from injury to persons to massive damage to the switchgear systems and can result in standstills, which can last for weeks and may even necessitate a complete replacement of the switchgear system. Our research results indicate that the risk of injury to persons has been decisively reduced by the application of ARCON®.

Most common causes of an arc fault are:

  • Human error when working on the switchgear system
  • Bridging between conductor with conductive foreign bodies such as tools, parts or rodents
  • Dirt or condensation
