PEACHTREE CITY, GA — Power management company Eaton today announced that the company will be educating builders and contractors about the booming smart home device market at the International Builders’ Show. Industry research shows that the global market for these devices – not including major appliances – is expected to be $9.4 billion by 2021. With multiple, practical connected home and lighting solutions on the market, Eaton will help builders cut through the clutter to determine the right solution for their customer.
“Adoption of smart home products and services continues to increase and has become a common upgrade, if not a standard package for many builders. Homeowners are realizing the benefits of security, energy efficiency and convenience smart home solutions provide,” said Brad Paine, vice president and general manager, Residential Solutions, Eaton’s Lighting Division. “Our market research found that as many as two-thirds of smart home purchases are made with security in mind – homeowners looking for the peace of mind that comes with controlling lights and many other smart home products anywhere, anytime, from their smart phones.”
Many professional contractors and builders have jumped in on the smart home opportunity and the research suggests there is even greater upside for the professional. Studies from Home Advisor and Houzz demonstrate that there is no go-to professional for smart device installation, yet a majority of homeowners rely on professional help to install smart home security, climate control and lighting solutions.
“The opportunity for builders and contractors to own a piece of the growing home automation market is huge,” added Rachael Elliot, director of marketing, Eaton’s Residential and Wiring Devices Division. “We’re at IBS this year to help these professionals understand what homeowners are looking for, how to parse the device options and how to fill the installation gap to grab their share of a thriving new market.”
Visitor’s to Eaton’s booth at the show, W3490, will be able to take a tour of the many paths Eaton provides for home connectivity, from smart circuit breakers and smart lighting to complete connected home solutions. The company will be featuring a “Passport to the Connected Home” tour that covers:
The tour will end at the IBS Show Village Modern home, located in the West Parking Lot, where visitors can see Eaton’s products installed in a home. Visitors who complete the passport tour will be entered to win smart home giveaways, including Eaton connected home products and Amazon Echo devices.
In addition to the connected home tour, Eaton’s booth will highlight the company’s full range of labor saving, safe and energy efficient residential building products, from plug-on neutral loadcenters and surge protection devices to decorative receptacles and LED lighting solutions.
During the show, Eaton will again welcome celebrity contractor Mike Holmes Sr., along with Mike Holmes, Jr. and Sherry Holmes, to participate in a panel discussion at the Show Village Modern home. The Holmes family will discuss connected home trends and solutions, electrical safety and surge protection. The panel will take place on Wednesday, January 10, 2-2:30 p.m. EST, and will be broadcast live on Eaton’s Electrical Sector Facebook page and Twitter account.
Eaton’s many residential lighting and controls and wiring devices solutions, including loadcenters, circuit breakers, surge protection devices, USB receptacles, and more, can also be found in The New American Home and The New American Remodel, both located in the greater Orlando area. IBS attendees are welcome to tour the homes during the show. Tickets and shuttle information are available at booths W38 and W39.
