Eaton joins Sustainable Innovation Forum as a Platinum Sponsor alongside COP24

December 3, 2018

Morges, Switzerland, December 3  – Eaton, a global leader in power management, will soon be at the heart of crucial discussions surrounding the worldwide transition to a truly sustainable, green economy as a Platinum Sponsor of the 2018 Sustainable Innovation Forum (SIF18), hosted in Katowice, Poland from 9-10 December.

Connecting more than 600 influential policy-makers and technology innovators, SIF18 is an official affiliate event of the 24th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP24), which will take place from 3-14 December 2018 in Katowice, Poland and will be just a short walk from the COP24 negotiation zone.

Building on eight previous years of success, the discussion and collaboration at SIF18 will focus on four key sustainability drivers: circular economy, energy transition, sustainable mobility and climate finance.

Eaton’s Vice President Sales, Service & Marketing for the Electrical Sector in EMEA Cyrille Brisson, will join SIF18’s high-profile panel to discuss “Whole Systems Thinking for Low Carbon Energy Transition” on Monday, 10 December at 14:15pm. Examining policies, technologies, regulation and more, the panelists will offer engaging and wide-reaching thoughts on how power systems must adapt to integrate decentralized renewable power generation and support the phenomenal rise of electric vehicles and energy storage.

From informal conversations to invitation-only discussion events, Eaton’s industry experts will also be on hand at SIF18 to dive deeper into the drivers and current challenges for the energy transformation and transition. Attendees will be able to hear how Eaton is innovating in microgrids, electric vehicles, battery storage solutions and more, with real-world examples drawn from major projects like Amsterdam’s Johan Cruijff ArenA.

“We’re dedicated to improving our environment and the quality of life of our fellow global citizens,” commented Frank Campbell, Eaton’s president for EMEA. “The world is now at a crucial crossroads. Failing to act decisively may delay the new electrification revolution we so urgently need. SIF18 is one of the best meeting places for policy-makers and climate technology innovators, to exchange, plan and prepare for the unprecedented impact that more renewable energy, electric vehicles and battery storage will have on the global energy market”.

Eaton’s experts at SIF18 will also outline the major findings and key takeaways from two influential research reports commissioned recently:

  • The Aurora Energy Research report, “Opportunities in Electric Vehicle Charging at Commercial and Industrial Sites”, examines the critical role that commercial and industrial (C&I) sites will play in providing charging infrastructure for electric vehicles in the UK and Germany. With 40 million electric vehicles expected on roads in these countries by 2040, C&I charging points represent a €14 billion market opportunity and could help reduce emissions from cars by as much as 90%.

  • The detailed economic study, “Flexibility Solutions for High-Renewable Energy Systems”, with Bloomberg New Energy Finance discusses the flexible energy options—including energy storage, smart-charging electric vehicles and interconnectors—that are needed to accelerate the transition to a cleaner power system in the UK, Germany and the Nordics. For instance, Nordic interconnectors could reduce UK power sector emissions 25% by 2030, while flexibly-charged electric vehicles could lower net emissions 26% in Germany by 2040.

“We can help build a more sustainable future that’s better for the planet and the bottom-line,” concluded Campbell. “Our most curious minds are hard at work developing the technologies and power management systems to enable grid operators and building owners and operators to seize new opportunities as we make the transition to a truly low-carbon future. We look forward to discussing all this and more at SIF18 as together, we can make a healthier planet work”.
