GUMMERSBACH, Germany … Power management company Eaton today announced the completion of construction on new filter systems at its Gummersbach site, which ensure a permanent solution to the flash flooding that occurred on April 10, 2018, in North Rhine-Westphalia.
Representatives from the town of Gummersbach and the Oberberg Environment Council joined leaders from Eaton’s Industrial Controls and Protection Division, EMEA, at the opening ceremony on August 23, 2019, where the company reinforced its commitment to employee safety and the environment.
Following recommendations from the Environment Council, Eaton invested over €120,000 to build two new filter systems, which now provide a safer response to extreme weather events and will prevent large volumes of water penetrating the Gummersbach facility.
“The unexpected flash flooding in 2018, which stopped production at our site for three days, may have been a consequence of global climate change,” comments Jesiele Lima, plant manager of the Eaton Gummersbach site. “Experts from the Wuppertal Engineering company told us that such a high volume of rainfall has not been seen for more than 50 years. As always, our focus is on ensuring the safety of our employees and the local community, so I am pleased to say that we have constructed two new filter systems. These systems will help both our facility and the environment by directing water flow into a specific canal, so it can no longer affect internal production areas.”
“I am pleased to see Eaton's commitment to the community and the environment,” adds Barbara Lackner, Oberberg Environmental Council.
