Eaton offers these power capacitor training options:

  • Factory: Three-day technical training workshop at the factory in Greenwood, SC
  • On-site: Instructor travels to customer location and leads interactive face-to-face training
  • Remote: Instructor-led training performed via web-based software screen sharing and conference communication

Power capacitor three-day technical training workshop

Eaton's power capacitor workshop offers practical applications for engineers using capacitors for voltage support, power factor correction and harmonics filtering.

  • The operational techniques and financial benefits of capacitor applications are presented and explained
  • Methods for unbalance detection, overcurrent, and overvoltage protection are also discussed
  • The workshop includes an optional tour of Eaton's Cooper Power series capacitor manufacturing facility in Greenwood, South Carolina

Reference manual

  • Each participant receives a power capacitor notebook, written by Eaton capacitor engineers, offering a comprehensive resource and reference manual to Eaton's Cooper Power series capacitors.


  • The instructor is a highly qualified engineer with practical knowledge and industry experience in capacitor design and application for both the utility and industrial environments. This training is not associated with Continuing Education Units (CEUs).  


  • This workshop is designed for electrical power engineers or similarly experienced professionals who are involved in applying capacitors in T&D systems including substations, distribution lines and transmission systems, and have a practical background in capacitor application.


  • Early registration is encouraged, as some workshops sell out. Eaton reserves the right to cancel seven days prior to the starting date, in which case a full refund will be given. Registrants may cancel up to seven days before the workshop to receive a full refund. Other costs incurred due to a cancellation are the responsibility of the registrant. Substitutions can be made at any time at no extra cost.


  • The workshop is conducted in a three-day series of interactive lectures, demonstrations and problem-solving sessions.
  • Voltage support and power factor theories are exercised throughout the sessions. Participants should bring a calculator.
  • Questions and comments are encouraged at all times.
  • Typical class size of 10-20 attendees to increase individual participation.
  • The workshop includes an optional plant tour of Eaton's Cooper Power series power capacitor manufacturing facility.

Power capacitor customer on-site and remote training courses

Remote and on-site courses are led by Eaton’s training coordinator who possesses a wealth of subject matter knowledge and industry experience. All classes are intended to be interactive and to field any questions raised. All participants will receive a copy of training material. 

Pricing summary

  • Remotely conducted web-based courses: $495 daily 
  • On-site conducted courses: $2,995 for class size up to five participants, $195 for each additional participant. Large group discounts available.

Standardized training modules and terms

  • There are three training modules
  • One module to be presented in a single day 
  • Eaton recommends the introduction module as it reinforces understanding of core concepts and industry design features. Depending on the audience concentration and experience, the class can be customized to address any of the topics requested. 
  • Custom requested training may not be readily available as the coursework is tailored to meet needs.
Conference room full of people training

A minimum of four weeks’ notice is required to coordinate the training window and create training material. Eaton reserves the right to cancel seven days prior to the starting date, in which case a full refund will be given. Customers may cancel remote training up to seven days before the module to receive a full refund; on-site training cancelations will require reimbursement for any Eaton travel cancelation fees. Participants can be substituted at any time at no extra cost.

About your instructor

Damian Gonzalez completed his undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Puerto Rico and his master’s degree in Electric Power Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Damian has 10 years of electric power utility experience and worked for Eaton and predecessor companies for 34 years. His most recent assignments included application engineering management and product management for Eaton's Cooper Power series power capacitor product line. Damian’s experience includes power system modeling and analysis, and product management for fuses, surge arresters, distribution transformers and power capacitors. He has made technical presentations around the world on a variety of power systems topics including overvoltage protection, overcurrent protection, harmonics, power quality and capacitor applications. Damian was a registered Professional Engineer in Puerto Rico and Pennsylvania and is a Life Senior Member of IEEE.
