Customer success story: Specialmangimi Galtieri
Using Eaton components, Elektron delivers a state-of-the-art remote monitoring system for animal feed manufacturer Specialmangimi Galtieri.
With the upgrade, Galtieri wanted to improve performance and uptime by leveraging data to optimize the production process. Likewise, the company sought to reduce its reliance on skilled labor while making it safer and easier for operators to monitor and intervene. Most importantly, the new system had to be compatible with Galtieri’s existing machinery.

In the past, the controller was a conscious human brain that you had to trust. Now we control our processes digitally, thanks to communication between the server and the field. We produce a healthier and safer product. And this allows us to prevent and reduce customer complaints.
Founded in 1973, Specialmangimi Galtieri SPA has been producing feed for animals such as horses, beef and dairy cattle, buffaloes, sheep, pigs and rabbits for more than 50 years. Since its inception, the company has prided itself on a culture of innovation, especially with a view to enhancing sustainability and product quality.
When it was time to replace the Galtieri feed mill’s switchgear after 20 years, the company turned to its long-standing partner, Elektron srl, an industrial automation specialist with a focus on the animal feed sector. According to Antonio Galtieri, “Elektron has helped us to make our production processes more and more reliable, tailoring them to our needs.”
To further improve availability and uptime, remote maintenance capabilities were a top priority in this project. As the old switchgear was supplied by Klöckner-Moeller, an Eaton legacy brand, Elektron suggested using Eaton components for the new control and monitoring system. To connect them, Elektron opted for Eaton’s SmartWire-DT intelligent wiring technology, of which it was an early adopter.
After 20 years, the switchgear at a feed mill operated by Specialmangimi Galtieri SPA had reached the end of its life.
This presented an opportunity to increase uptime, not least by making data digitally available and enabling remote monitoring and maintenance.
The old system was installed and maintained by Elektron srl, an industrial automation specialist and Eaton solution partner.
In the event of an issue, an Elektron technician had to intervene on site, which resulted in costly downtime, especially given the five-hour drive to the factory.Since the facility is up to 30 meters high, manual troubleshooting was also a safety issue.
Using our intelligent wiring technology, which makes it possible to convert an analog machine into a digital one, Elektron was able to:
