xComfort IKA SOLAR

With xComfort IKA SOLAR, we offer a range of ready-to-connect photovoltaic DC string boxes (PVA) that have been tested in accordance with IEC 61439-2 Annex DD. Typical use cases are single-family houses or smaller functional buildings. The IKA-SOL product family offers standard variants for DC-side protection of the installation between the PV panel and the inverter. The photovoltaic DC string boxes are applicable for inverters with 1x or 2x MPP trackers. Protection of the DC side by integrated type 2 or type 1+2 surge arrester, optionally with or without DC string circuit breaker or with MC4 connections or VM cable glands for direct connection.

Core features

  • Standardized, IEC/EN 61439-2 Appendix DD (PVA) tested stringboxes for residential and small commercial photovoltaic applications.
  • IKA-SOL protects PV modules & inverters from overvoltages.
  • Self-made stringboxes (PVA) require a lot of time for planning, test procedures (thermal cycle test, climate test, test for the effects of solar radiation) and for the creation of design verifications. The ready-to-connect IKA-SOL from Eaton have passed these test procedures.

IKA SOLAR protects PV modules and inverters from overvoltages

The number of new PV systems on the roofs of single-family houses and smaller commercial buildings is constantly increasing - sometimes with a high investment for the building owner. It is therefore important to protect the PV panels and the PV inverter from overvoltages. Eaton's ready-to-connect system solution creates safety for the PV system. Prevent costly surge damage and failures with IKA SOLAR.

Standardized products tested in accordance with IEC 61439-2 Annex DD (PVA)

PV combiner boxes designed according to IEC 61439-2 Annex DD (PVA) must pass rigorous testing, including thermal cycle, climate and solar radiation testing. Our ready-to-connect IKA SOLAR string boxes have successfully passed these tests.

Focus on the essentials and let us take care of the rest

Manufacturing string boxes according to IEC 61439-2 Annex DD in house require a lot of time for planning. In particular test procedures and the creation of the mandatory design verification documents is very time-consuming. By using our ready-to-connect IKA SOLAR string boxes, you can thus save time and money to focus on what matters most.

Powerful protection is the first step: Our SPPVR surge protection devices

The SPPVR family of surge protection devices (SPDs) is our answer to the growing need for safe and reliable photovoltaic (PV) installations in residential and commercial buildings. Powerful protection is the first step to ensuring a long lifetime for your equipment and inverters: these SPDs ensure that your system will not be damaged by any overvoltage event on the direct current (DC) side of your PV application.

Additional protection with our PKZ-SOL DC string circuit breaker

The PKZ-SOL string circuit breaker (DC) from Eaton’s Moeller series provides a fuseless alternative for protection against short-circuit currents. To ensure maximum protection, each PKZ-SOL device is installed inside a customer-specific junction box. The documentation contains a diagram that explains the exact relationship between the tripping current of the protective device and the short-circuit current of the PV modules.
