A design that’s standard-compliant and quality-tested

In principle, all Eaton miniature circuit breakers are type-tested and approved in accordance with either IEC/EN 60898-1 or IEC/EN 60947-2. Circuit breakers that fall within the scope of IEC/EN 60898-1 are primarily intended for use in domestic installations and are designed to be operated by non-experts. IEC/EN 60947-2 applies to circuit breakers in circuits with rated voltages up to 1,000 V AC, or up to 1,500 V DC.

The right MCB for every situation

When selecting the right type of circuit breaker for a particular application, the following three criteria must be taken into account:

1) Current limiting class (= selectivity class)
MCBs are divided into the current limiting (selectivity) classes 1, 2 and 3, which are based on the switch-off time under short-circuit conditions.

2) Rated current
The rated current indicates the current values that a MCB can permanently withstand at an ambient temperature of 30 °C (in residential and commercial applications).

3) Tripping characteristics
Circuit breakers with tripping characteristics B and C are the most common types, as they are the standard in both residential and commercial applications.

The next generation has arrived

Miniature circuit breakers are now among the most common overcurrent protection devices. Traditional fuses are increasingly being replaced by modern circuit breakers that can be switched on again after tripping. Eaton offers premium miniature circuit breakers with different rated currents and tripping characteristics, for residential and commercial applications (xPole series) as well as for industrial applications (xEffect series).
The basic task of MCBs is to protect the cables in low-voltage networks against damage due to overload and short circuits.
