PowerXL DB1 cold plate variable frequency drives

The PowerXL DB1 is one of the smallest IEC-compatible drive, with a height of only 74 mm. It does not have a heat sink, keypad and display, which saves 40 % of space compared to a standard drive. This makes it ideal for integration into existing systems with limited space or ventilation. The DB1 has the same features as the DC1 drive and can work with motors up to efficiency class IE4.

Space requirement
40% less compared to drives with active cooling
Motor control
Up to the highest efficiency class IE4
Installation
Control signal terminals with push-in technology

Core features

  • Highly compact at a height of only 74 mm (frame size 1)
  • Uses existing systems for passive cooling
  • Future-proof - DB1 for all motors up to IE4
  • High overload resistance: 150 % for 60 seconds, 175 % for two seconds
  • Ambient temperatures up to 60° C without derating
  • Integrated CANopen and Modbus RTU
  • V/f control, sensorless vector control

Space-saving installation in existing systems.

The DB1 drive connects its electronics to the motor, pump, or compressor's existing housing. The drive uses passive cooling from the system, so it can be customized for each application. The control cabinets or enclosures can be sealed off securely, as the materials they contain will dissipate the heat away from the device.

How to Use the Cold Plate Unit

The Cold Plate unit consists of a power module and a control module that can be detached. The control module has various I/O interfaces and supports CANopen and Modbus-RTU networks. You can connect it to the Modbus protocol using the COM interface (RJ45) or data cables, which link to two terminals that manage the signal transmission. The terminals feature Eaton’s push-in technology, which simplifies and speeds up the wiring process. The DB1 is fully compatible with Eaton’s external keypads, so you do not need an integrated display or keypad.

A powerful commissioning software

With drivesConnect software for PC, you can access real-time display values during operation and perform optimal diagnostics.

Easy configuration and diagnostics

The serial RJ45 interface of the variably frequency drive (VFD) offers various configuration options:

  • External keypads
  • Communication stick
  • drivesConnect Windows software
  • drivesConnect Mobile App for smartphones or tablets

These solutions enable users to configure, copy, and save the VFD parameters, as well as to monitor the performance and troubleshoot the issues of the VFD on site. Users can also view and edit the saved parameter sets offline, without connecting to the VFD. Moreover, users can easily replicate the parameter sets to multiple VFDs, which reduces the commissioning time and effort.

Accessories for PowerXL Drives

We provide a variety of accessories that are designed for our PowerXL variable frequency drives, as well as some that are compatible with other products. These accessories include line reactors, load reactors, sine filters, and braking resistors. They enable you to customize the range and adjust to different EMC environments and line-side operating conditions.

Eaton will support you with all aspects related to energy efficiency.

The ErP Directive and the ever greater degree of machine automation are boosting the demand for variable speed devices, even in simple applications. What does compliance with the ErP Directive mean for you, and how can you make your applications more energy efficient? You will find answers to these and many other questions in our comprehensive white papers and brochures, as well as in our podcast with energy-efficiency experts from Eaton.
