Circuit breaker factory authorized mechanism enhancements (FAME)

Eaton’s circuit breaker factory authorized mechanism enhancement (FAME) increases the life of VCP-W medium-voltage vacuum circuit breakers and Eaton MV-VR breakers, significantly reducing costs and ongoing maintenance requirements. FAME is ideal for switchgear modernization and upgrades.
Longer life
10-year or 10,000 operation scheduled maintenance intervals
Improved reliability
Increased mechanical endurance using advanced synthetic lubricant and robust components
Long-term savings
Extended maintenance intervals reduce labor expenses and process down-time
FAME mechanism

Gain longer life and savings

The FAME process involves upfront inspections and tests, and enhances the entire mechanism to include the following components:

  • Enhanced lubrication
  • Cast iron bearing block
  • Main-link roller and cam
  • Enhanced motor cut-off cam
  • Rugged anti-reverse system
  • Enhanced vertical supports
  • Escutcheon decal

Significantly extend maintenance intervals

The maintenance interval of a FAME-enhanced VCP-W mechanism is 10,000 operations or 10 years, whichever comes first, if applied per usual service conditions as defined in IEEE Std C37.04 ™ 1999. This applies to all distribution-class circuit breakers rated up to 2000A continuous current, 41 kA max short circuit, 15 kV max voltage. FAME features a standard 3 year warranty. (2 years if applied as a motor starter)

Achieve dramatic long-term savings

The FAME process returns a superior product that requires no scheduled maintenance over a 10-year period — versus a typical VCP-W circuit breaker that can may require reconditioning up to four times in that time period. FAME may be added to a Class 1 reconditioning service, or as a stand-alone offering. Eaton also offers a tune up after 10 years to ensure your mechanism continues to operate even longer.
