Building safety

How buildings are used and the perceived risks within buildings are changing. As a result of this there are ongoing changes in legislative requirements in the design and selection of new innovative solutions which protect occupants not just in the short term but for the full expected design life of the building. There are many discussions to be had or perceptions of what things really mean within this critical subject but here we will review a few that we feel are important to helping build a safer future.

In this chapter of Eaton's online knowledge journey we’ll review the following key topics:

Pending legislation and regulations in UK buildings - Principles of good design with safety critical systems - The selection of safety critical solutions - New technology and its application in future legislation

Building a safer future – New UK building regulations

Date: 15th July 2020

Time: 11:30 BST

Speaker: Name Here

Overview: In this webinar we'll provide an overview of the likely impact on construction in the short and long term following the governments workplan proposal announced in spring.

In the wake of the Grenfell Fire disaster and the publication of "Building a Safer Future’ in the summer of 2019, a consultation was opened on proposed recommendations for UK construction. In spring 2020 UK government announced its workplan for a full technical review of Approved Document B (fire safety guidance in the building regulations) and proposed actions from Building a Safer Future.

In this webinar we'll provide an overview of the likely impact on construction in the short and long term.

For specification of a central power supply for emergency lighting purposes, consideration must be given to the primary function required and regulatory requirements of the application. There are numerous types of central power supplies available on the market for various applications, so it is essential that when selecting a system for Emergency Lighting it meets all mandatory requirements and the obligations to ensure sufficient life safety within buildings.

In this webinar we’ll explain how the Central Power Supply works and the benefits. The types of systems and their applications, as well as the preferred code of practice for Central Power Supplies and the testing / maintenance requirements.

Electrical safety in LV switchboards

Date: 9th September 2020

Time: 11:30 BST

Speaker: Name Here

Overview: In this webinar we’ll take a deeper dive in to the forms of separation according to EN 61439 and new, supplementary solutions & technologies to increase electrical safety for operators even further and mitigate the risks of Arc Flash.

For specifiers, one of the most significant choices they face when specifying a low-voltage assembly, is the form of separation. Selection of an inappropriate form of separation may mean the assembly is over specified meaning a much more expensive solution than required, or more concerning underspecified therefore not providing adequate levels of safety for the intended application.

In this webinar we’ll take a deeper dive in to the forms of separation according to EN 61439 and new, supplementary solutions and technologies to increase electrical safety for operators even further and mitigate the risks of Arc Flash.
